What You Won’t Do For Love

2 as 1

Written By: Aisha Adams

Have you ever done something for that special person that you thought you would never do? That your friends laughed at you when you told them about it? And your family thought you were out of your mind? Well to sum it all up, it’s called LOVE. There is a classic R&B song called “What You Won’t Do For Love”, and the lyrics are in fact true in some cases.

Here are some of the lyrics: “My friends wonder what is wrong with me. Well, I’m in a daze from your love, you see. I came back to let you know, got a thing for you, and I can’t let go. But then I only want the best it’s true, they can’t believe the things I do for you. What you won’t do, do for love, you’ve tried everything but you won’t give up. In my world, only you make me do for love, what I would not do”. Wow!

There is a story in the Bible I can recall about a man named Jacob (Genesis 29). Jacob was sent away by his parents to find a wife from another country. When Jacob arrived, he saw love at first sight (his future wife) and her name was Rachel. The Bible describes Rachel as stunning and as the group The Commodores would say “she was a brickhouse”:) Jacob was so in love with Rachel, that he made a deal with her dad.

He told her father Laban, that he would work for him seven years in return for his lovely daughter. Laban agreed, and to Jacob those days went by pretty fast, because he was determine to capture Rachel’s heart. Now you may say to yourself, “I am not doing that for any man or woman”, or “It’s not that serious”, or “There are other fish in the sea. Oh please!” Well I’m here to tell you, when you love someone, and you know God sent them to you, you will do things for that person that you thought you would never do.

Proverbs 18:22 says “He that finds a wife, finds a good thing and the favor of God is added to it”. After seven years had passed, Laban went back on his word. Now you remember what Laban promised Jacob right? Instead of being a man of his word, Laban deceived Jacob and gave him his oldest daughter Leah instead. Jacob didn’t realize this until the morning after his wedding night. Jacob was fumed, but he refused to give up. So Laban confessed and told Jacob it is not tradition in his country to give up the youngest daughter before the first born.

Laban made a deal with Jacob. He told Jacob to finish the week of marriage with Leah, and he would give him Rachel, but he still had to put in seven more years of work for him in return, but that didn’t matter to Jacob. Jacob’s dream finally came true. Jacob finally got his “good thing”. Now tell me this…..Is that Not Love ? Some people go around the world for love, but they may never find what they dream of. “What you won’t do, do for love, you’ve tried everything, but you won’t give up. In my world, only you, make me do for love, what I would not do”.

My first love? Excluding all the crshues I had from 1st to 4th grade (after that I was pulled out and homeschooled) my first love was someone I met at an anime convention last year. When we got together I had a subtle feeling it wouldn’t last but I allowed myself to give it a try. They lived a few hours from me and everything was fine and dandy. We’d have games where we’d have to take turns answering questions about ourselves that the other asked, and talk about the future They’d visit me often and we’d be up late talking and joking and trying not to wake anyone else in the house up.We promised each other that if we were ever unhappy in our relationship we wouldn’t drag it out and we would tell the other right away. We also promised that it would be in person or, if we were back at our own houses, over the phone. It would never be over the computer or in a text message. But one night, they sent me a text saying that we had to talk and I had to get on the computer and when I got on the computer they told me that they were unhappy and had been unhappy for a while And had to end it because they were going back to their previous lover. In one night those two big promises we had made had been broken. That, I think, hurt more than the break up. But I learned from the whole thing. I take away knowledge from every experience in my life so I don’t regret anything.- SiddyObsidian.Reverie[at]gmail[dot]comP.S. Stupid Pants Syndrome.
