Hello my curvy sisters! Millions of us will be starting a new weight loss plan very soon. That’s how we know 2012 is almost here! And you know what that means? Everyone has the energy and motivation in the beginning, but it soon fizzles. I should know since my weight loss plan have fizzled for three years in a row. But this year, I was determined to start changing before the ball drops 12/31. I’m not a weight loss master or a nutrition guru (had Popeye’s Chicken two days ago), but I believe the following tip will work! My weight loss goals don’t include losing my butt or being a string bean. I love being curvy, my desire is just to be a leaner and stronger curvy. My grandmother always said, “Nobody wants a bone, but a dog!”
My stats:
Before – Start Date: Oct 1, Height: 5’3″, Weight: 180, Bodyfat: 44%
Current – As of: 12/10, Height: 5’3″, Weight: 165, Bodyfat: 36%
Not bad for 10 weeks, if I do say so myself! As my journey continues I want to share the first weight loss tip that got me over the first hurdle. We know that succeeding at a weight loss plan isn’t rocket science. Burn more calories than you take in. That’s it! First I had to:
Develop S.M.A.R.T. goals!
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
Specific: Specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. “I want to lose weight”, isn’t going to cut it. Try answering the six “W” (five W’s and one H) questions to make it more specific.
Measurable: How will you know if you’ve reached it, if there’s nothing to measure it by? Measuring your progress keeps you on track
and allows you wiggle room. Good measuring tools are dates for a specific events, piece of clothing, or you can give it a number.
Attainable: Why set yourself up for failure? When starting a weight loss plan, you should say to yourself, “I can do that!” instead of “I don’t know, that’s a lot of weight to lose…we’ll see….” I believe that you should have S.M.A.R.T. goals that challenge you and that expand your capacity to meet it, but is not out of this world. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.
Realistic: To be realistic, a goal must have an objective you are willing and able to work at. High goals take more motivation to accomplish than lower ones, but you must make sure that every goal you choose is realistic.
Timely: In the simpliest terms, a goal with no time frame has no sense of urgency!
Loseit.com is a great online program and app that allows you to input your S.M.A.R.T. goals and easily keep track of your eating, exercise, add friends, and track your weight loss by the pound.
