When is it okay to go back?

Backwards clock

— Niya Tanielle

As I write this I’m thinking of all the times I have gone backwards. Regaining the ten pounds I worked so hard to lose or even returned to the same bad habits that got me out of debt the first time. When it comes to relationships, is it ever beneficial to go back?

A friend informed that we were coming into “cuffing season”. What is cuffing season? As the weather changes and it gets colder, this is the time people reach back into their Rolodex to find a familiar cuddle buddy or a friend with benefits. It is true that God can bring opportunities and people around a second time.

Maybe we ruined the first encounter when our flesh was out of order or we weren’t ready to receive. We must discern which replay is God’s do-over or another plot sent by the enemy to distract us. I can remember a time when I made the decision to return to abstinence.

I was tired of playing spiritual games and get back to business at hand. I knew I couldn’t continue to have my flesh out of control and still expect to receive God’s best for my life. Once I got to a point where my flesh wasn’t a constant thought and I began reaching new levels, here comes Frank (not his real name).

Frank could blow on me and I would fall to pieces!  And trust me he knew it! He started calling, texting, and wanting to “hang out”. It wasn’t a coincidence! The devil uses the same script! I knew it wasn’t God’s do-over because Frank hadn’t renewed his mind to the things of God and had no interest in being obedient to the word. Gotcha devil!

Be careful not to confuse one for the other and end up in a place you never intended. New levels = New devils. Don’t take the bait! As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. (Proverbs 26:11 KJV)
